The founder of the band is a Lebanese young man named "Hamid Sno" born in 1988, Sno after being gay, took refuge in a television interview on the cover of a magazine ,the team currently consists of 5 members, all of whom are students of the American University of Beirut, namely Hamed Sno, Firas Abu Fakhr, Karl Gerges, Ibrahim Badr, Haig Papazian, It was the band's first appearance in 2008 at the American University of Beirut and appeared on the musical scene at the Music Festival in Lebanon, In 2009, the band won the Jury Prize for "Laila Dance", When the team was asked about the origin of the name "Laila Project," one comedian responded that the band had started as a money-making project for a girl named Laila, The band has stirred controversy because of the audacity to choose words, which the public considers dishonest, and the content of the songs from sexual and political content.
In 2016, the team was banned from conducting a concert in Jordan, I was in Jordan that time when mashrou leila band wanted to release their album Ebn El liel on this concert, and they just canceled the event because it was will happen in the Romanian theater and the government just canceled everything and sajilni.com just gave us our money back, we were too excited to go to this concert, I don’t care if this guy is a gay or anything, am listening for him not marrying him I don’t judge but the government did this because the families will just do problems, and look now before a while some people Has raised great controversy over the past few days, at a ceremony held in Egypt by the fifth assembly, was raised the flag of homosexuals at the ceremony, and confirmed the Union of Musical Professions that it will not give the band any statements for the establishment of new concerts.
